Eating a balanced and healthy diet is always a key step to achieving a healthy lifestyle. For some people, eating the correct amounts of macronutrients or even eating more healthful foods can be hard to do on a daily basis. Sometimes, the nutritional facts of foods that a person consumes are not always supplied to the consumer before making their choice of what meal to chose, like when eating out at a restaurant. These are just some of the things I realized while tracking the food I ate for the two weeks above. Although some of my dietary habits have been obvious to me, I have uncovered new habits that play into my diet.
While tracking my food, I started to realize that I was not eating as much food as I thought I did. Before seeing the nutritional value of the food I was eating, I thought that I was consuming more calories than I needed for the day. However, based on the interactive dietary reference intake calculator we used in discussion 3, I should be consuming an estimated 3345 calories per day. I shockingly did not consume that amount of calories a single day. This was surprising to me because the food I did consume was filling enough for me to last from meal to meal. Although, that dietary reference intake is contingent on me maintaining an active lifestyle. Therefore, I cannot always rely on that number because I might take a lazy day here and there and not go to the gym or do some sort of physical activity for at least 60 minutes.
