To most people, salads may be considered their only healthy food option. But in truth, there are so many more options when considering what to eat, especially when you go out. Americans have grown up watching fast food commercials, and seeing their advertisements. We are so busy getting from one place to another that we eat unhealthy foods out of convenience, so we don’t have to slow down. The more research that is done regarding fast food, the more we see how unhealthy it is to constantly consume that many empty calories, and mass amounts of sugar. Once in a while as a treat, fast foods like McDonalds and Burger King are alright, but fast food has become an American staple. And that, is causing big problems in regards to our diets, lifestyles, and most importantly, our health.
Fast food restaurants are really unhealthy for us. Recent studies conducted by the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the University of Granada have proven that people who tend to eat more fast food begin to develop depression. (Lim, H. J., & Choue, R. 2012) Food from a fast food joint contains mostly fat, empty calories, sugar, and sodium. If you ate just one cheeseburger, you would need to run six whole miles so you could burn off all the calories from that single burger. A recent consumption poll indicated that on a monthly basis 8 out of 10 Americans eat some kind of fast food. Although fast food does taste delicious, do you really know what you are eating?
