“You make choices in the food you want to purchase, and if you make the wrong choices relentlessly and perpetually, you’re going to have health consequences. But that is not something restaurants are responsible for (Mello et al. np).” John Doyle, who is the co-founder of the Center for Consumer Freedom addressed the topic of obesity being blames on fast food corporations and made this statement. The Unites States is known for having the population with the most obesity. There are endless jokes on the internet that display Americans as individuals that love fast food. Although there is a ban in 26 states that does not allow individuals to sue fast food corporations, there should be a federal ban in all of the 50 states. Fast food corporations are not to blame for societies’ personal choices. These corporations now clearly state their nutrition facts on their food. There is no reason to bankrupt entire industries because of peoples’ unhealthy choices, because the time, energy, and money used to sue could be invested to help improve their health. Hannah Nichols, and author for Medical News Today, defines obesity as “[a] condition where a person has accumulated so much body fat that it might have a negative effect on their health (Nichols n.p.).” Basically, obesity prevents an individual from undertaking basic functions and errands completed in every-day life. To be considered obese, an individual has to have a bodyweight 20% higher than it should be (Nichols n.p.). Body…
