Operations Management in Best Buy

I have been employed with Best Buy Mobile, which is the cell phone part of Best Buy. We are a part of Best Buy but we do not participate in how the rest of the store is run. There are several best buy mobile standalone stores all over the country. I have been a part of the mobile team for a little bit over 2 years and would like to share my knowledge with you on how the business is run. I guess that’s why they pay him the big bucks. Next topic I would like to touch on is project management. Project management is the science and art of organizing the components of a project whether the project is the development of a new product, the launch of a new service, or marketing campaign. First think that comes to my mind is super bowl of 2011. BestBuy had just launched there buyback program. This is a program that that buys back you’re your electronic device at a very good price. There are new electronics coming out so often so we don’t want you to lose value for your product. Our project team came up with a brilliant marketing campaign. Justin Bieber and Ozzy Osborne in a commercial was brilliant! Do you know how many people came in and said “Hey I saw that Justin Bieber commercial what is your buyback program all about.” Definition, planning, execution, control, and closure is all what project management is all about. We were growing as a company and we needed more space. We needed more computers and a larger area. A lot of planning was put for this and all we needed to do was execute the project.
