I agree with the outcome of my emotional intelligence test because I believe that I can read people very easily and have the skill of interpreting their wants and needs. There are five traits of emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. Self-awareness is recognizing your own emotions and their affects on the environment around you. I believe that I have a high rating of self-awareness because I know myself, my strengths, my weaknesses, and what situations will make me uncomfortable so I can avoid them. I think that I struggle with developing others and political awareness because I tend to be selfish and only have concerns about myself. However, I definitely have a high level or service orientation because most of the jobs that I have had have dealt heavily with customers. I also believe that I excel when it comes to understanding others. I am not a judgmental person and being able to analyze people’s words and thoughts into ways that I can understand has helped me when two of my friends are in an argument. Social skills is the last trait of emotional intelligence. Social skills include influence, communication, leadership, change catalyst, conflict management, building bonds, collaboration and cooperation, and team capabilities. As far as social skills go, I think that I may lack in a few categories. I do not really enjoy working in groups, so building bonds, collaboration and cooperation, and team capabilities are traits that I score low in. Over time, I have definitely seen my emotional intelligence change. When I was in high school, I did not have any awareness of my own emotions or how they affected people, nor did I care. Since I entered college, I believe that my communication skills, leadership, and conflict management skills have evolved.
