This essay will discuss the key people management issues, found in McDonalds, being discrimination due to diversity and low motivation as a result of job specialisation. McDonalds is large corporation with thousands of employees, working in stores situated all over the world. This globalisation of stores insures a need for a diverse workforce in every McDonald’s store, in order to reflect the current diversity around the world. IMPACT DISCRIMINATION HAS ON MCDONALDS
As McDonalds reiterates the diversity evident around the world, diversity issues for management, such as discrimination can easily arise leading to many organisational problems. Hopper and Salvaggio (2008) cited Margam, Hosoda and Da Silva (2007) as stating that even alleged discrimination in the workplace causes a decreased organisational loyalty and job satisfaction. Discrimination that goes unnoticed in an organisation could result in a very hostile and unproductive workplace.
IMPORTANCE OF MANAGING DIVERSITY
Diversity, managed properly can be a great advantage to not only McDonalds, but any organisation. Organisational interpersonal relationships, both internally and externally, can be significantly improved by diversity management. This is due to different cultured employees being more open and willing to form relationships with a broad range of individuals (free online research papers, 2009).
