Applying the Basic Priniciples of Science and Methods of Scientific Inquiry

Observation: The plants that are on the left side of the flowerbed are growing better than the flowers on the right side of the flowerbed. There is a dog that constantly pees on the left side of the flowerbed. The left side of the flowerbed receives more sunlight than the right side.
Problem: The plants on the right side of the flowerbed are not growing as well as the flowers on the left side of the flowerbed
Hypothesis One: Because the left side of the flowerbed receives more sun light, the flowers grow better on that side.
Hypothesis Two: The flowers on the left side grow better than the right side because of the

Conclusion: After testing the soil on the left and right side of the flowerbed, it was found that the left side of the flowerbed had a higher rate of nitrogen which would be attributed to the dog pee. The soil on the left side of the flowerbed also had a higher rate of decomposers. This along with the amount of sunlight that the plants on the left side receive would explain the growth differences between the two sides.

GEO #5: Comprehend and apply the basic principles of science and methods of scientific inquiry;

Tasks:
Solve the following problem:

You discover the plants and flowers in your flower bed are growing better on the left side than those on the right side. Now, you have observed that Ms. Tina’s dog frequently comes to your garden, and goes around the left side of it…and pees there! But, you have also observed that the left side receives all the morning sun, while the right side of the garden is more shaded. So, why are the plants on the left side growing better than the ones on the right side?
