What sort of influence does today’s technology have on our society? The youth of today are constantly immersed in technological advancements that promote nonstop communication and instant gratification, whether through cell phones, gaming systems, laptops, or MP3 players. But most people are asking, are these technological advancements a good thing? Some people believe that the growth of technology has negatively influenced the social interactions of today's youth because it isolates individuals from reality, hinders communication, and perpetuates the concept of immediate satisfaction. I’m not saying that I can’t function at all without it, but when we grow up with constantly having a cell phone, or some kind of access to things like the internet, talking with our friends every day, or Facebook, we get used to always having constant access to technology. So when we are expected not to have a cell phone, or any technology with us during the day, it’s a hard thing to do. We need to realize though, that it is okay to take a break, and let everything that we’ve learned so far in a day soak in and be processed and significantly remembered.
Some argue that all of the technology that surrounds us today has a positive effect on our everyday lives because it helps us to explore and have access to a ton of information that we wouldn’t normally have access to, and therefore we can learn a lot more. As Nicholas Carr wrote in his article about a study between brain activity and the internet, it was found that “the distinctive neural pathways of experienced Web users had developed because of their internet use.” Technology has been shown to improve brain activity and improves our ability to multitask. The internet also gives us the opportunity to meet lots of different people from across the world, expand our careers, and look up all sorts of different things such as new recipes for holidays, or where the best and
