The Dangers of Texting While Driving
Over the past few years, texting while driving has become a major issue for many Americans across the country. It has been the cause of many deaths and injuries and is a huge distraction for drivers. Texting while driving is said to be as dangerous as drunk driving. Many campaigns have been developed to further reduce the rate of accidents caused by texting while driving, but these are not taken to notice by the thousands of people taking their chances and answering a simple text that results in a terrible accident. Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Amarillo, Galveston, El Paso, Corpus Christi, Missouri City, the Canyon and Stephenville are among the two dozen Texas cities that have enacted local distracted driving laws. According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles the new Wireless Communications Device Law (effective January 1, 2009) makes it an infraction to write, send, or read text-based communication on an electronic wireless communications device, such as a cell phone, while driving a motor vehicle. According to USA Today Nine states made texting while driving a primary offense in 2010, and four more have done so this year, including Nevada, which will issue warnings until the law is in full effect Jan. 1, 2012.

Texting while driving has become one of the leading causes of accidents in America over the last couple of years. Research shows that deaths from distracted driving rose 28% from 2005 to 2008, at the same time text messaging rates skyrocketed from 1 million texts per month in 2001 up to a staggering 110 million per month in 2008. A quick glance at ones phone may result in a dangerous accident. One small text can cause a one big problem. That one text is definitely worth the wait. It is extremely dangerous to text and drive because it gets the drivers main focus off the road causing a huge mess. Texting while driving
