Stephen Covey wrote The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People in hopes to help people see that they are capable of living a successful and productive life. Covey explains each habit in detail and what order they should be completed in. This book brought a lot into prospective for me. I am now fully committed to compare each habit to my life and change my actions to make sure I am living a productive life.
The first habit discussed in the book is being proactive. According to Stephen Covey the first step to being proactive is to look at your self in your own mirror. Do not let what others say of you affect the view of yourself in your own mirror. Being proactive has to do with your response to a stimulus. The stimulus could be anything from your surroundings, your job, or your marriage. People often let negative situations affect who they are. A reactive person would allow a rainstorm to turn their good day into a bad one, while a proactive person would remembers the positives of the rainstorm. As people we are sometimes put into difficult situations or situations happen that cause us pain and suffering. Physically and emotionally these situations can hurt us but we can choose whether or not they hurt our character. Taking initiative is another step in becoming proactive. This does not mean you have to be pushy or aggressive, but you need recognize your responsibility to make things happen.
