What Makes A Behavioral Habit? Essay

Challenges- The challenges I faced in this experiment were largely internal. Something about changing a behavioral habit in your personality just makes it so tedious. That could be because it is such an integral aspect of a person’s personality. All of our little quirks and idiosyncrasies are what make you an individual, and if you try to change them you’re brain rebels. That said I did get a lot of outside support from my family once I had informed them of the project I was doing. To be reliable and courteous: challenges include general selfishness and forgetfulness. When trying to be more reliable, I often times had to push through laziness to acquiesce to peoples planning. For example, when making plans to go to the lake with my sister I had to force myself to wake up early in order to leave on time with them. If I was still practicing my old behavior I would’ve just told her I changed my mind and didn’t want to go anymore. Thus ruining a day full of sister shenanigans. Thanks to my new behavior project, I got to spend some quality time with my sister. Self-sabotage was a common theme for me during this project. When trying to be more courteous, I often times found myself wanting to yell “I don’t care!” whilst trying to respectfully listen to people’s problems. I didn’t do that however, because I actually do care. It was more difficult for me then I thought it was going to be when I set out to act nicely to people.
