“ All who have meditated on the art of governing mankind have been convinced that the fate of empires depends on the education of youth” (Aristotle)

Albert Einstein once said “Information alone is not knowledge” and therefore I believe turning students into data storage devices and asking them to restore the information back on an assessment paper is not education. Our school’s perspective of education is closer to OSHO’s (2004, p. 117) vision “children should be helped to be more inventive not repetitive”

The School
The school I work in, as most schools in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates is under the supervision and regulations of Abu Dhabi Educational Council (ADEC). It is a private school from KG to Grade 12

30). Also, some of the after school remedial classes are only a reaction to improve a low assessment mark once achieved. It is more of a reinforcement of what was explained earlier in the class but with less number of students. The weakness of this strategy is in its approach towards making the student able to pass the test while the actual problem is still not addressed. The best description to such approach lies in Stephen Covey’s book First Things First where he says “the key to meet an unmet need is in addressing not ignoring the other needs.”(2002, p. 48). None of the above mentioned strategies addresses the real need or its related aspects; it is only creating a short term illusion of success.

The Learning Issue
In general, science is a subject greatly affected by aspects that can turn into chains limiting the student’s progress. The individual addressed in my case study is a male student who is in to key stage 3. The language skills, especially reading and comprehension, have become a serious barrier between him and a satisfactory level of achievement. This issue revealed itself several times when this student proved his ability to effectively fulfill a task given in Physics only when the instructions or context were translated to him. Since I was the one who did the translation, I was careful not to include any hints during the process. This remark was
