The criminal justice field is broad varying in responsibilities according to position and level. However, several general rules apply across the field, one of them being to oversee safety. This involves maintaining order, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing laws and rules, and promoting good community relations. This involves patrolling specific areas and promptly responding to calls for assistance. The second is fact gathering and documentation. This involves recording facts to prepare reports on incidents and activities. Providing testimony is unique aspect of this field (Banks, 2009).
Criminal justice professionals may be called upon to testify before grand juries or in court to present evidence or act as witnesses. Accurate and timely communications are major responsibilities in the criminal justice career.
