Group Proposal For: Adolescents in Residential Treatment Program
OVERVIEW:
Lakeland Regional Hospital of Springfield, Missouri, is a hospital to assist youth with emotional and mental disorders. Many times these adolescents need immediate intervention. The young women in this group aged fourteen to seventeen have a history of depression and have problems in peer groups, school, community, and/or their families. The purpose of this group is to focus on creating unique strengths of each member and to identify and utilize various coping skills. The group orientation will be predominantly psychotherapeutic and will facilitate integration of skills learned to enhance each member’s life.

Coping with side effects and handling emotions is essential. Understanding the mental and emotional self is crucial so each member can understand herself better. Learning about interpersonal relationships are necessary so social skills can increase and relationships with others can improve. Self-efficacy should be improved by the end of the group.
GROUP CHARACTERISTICS:
This group will be composed of females ages fifteen to eighteen. Each individual is an inpatient client of the hospital. It is a closed, involuntary and will be short term. Most of the adolescents in this group have already undergone extensive therapy addressing their depression. There will be a maximum of ten members total in this group.
DATE, TIME, AND LOCATION:
The group will start on August 15, 2012, at 10:00 A.M. at Lakeland Regional Hospital, at the residential treatment facility.
FREQUENCY AND LENGTH:
Each session will be held weekly for an hour in length, for a total of 8 weeks.
GROUP INCLUSION:
Screening and orientation are critical to the success of this adolescent group, especially since this group is involuntary. The first step is to make sure the client’s needs match the goals of the group. Each individual will have participated in a psychological evaluation and have been recommended by the client’s main psychologist. Therapists usually send a summary of treatment or speak directly to me regarding clients. To be accepted
