Genocide is best described as: “the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group.” “If the holocaust is not a fact, then nothing is a fact.” A major part of the Holocaust genocide is denial. Holocaust denial is present in the United States, Europe, and Canada. These people, known as “revisionists” try to deny the extermination of six million Jews during World War II. The revisionists claim that there are no documents to prove the holocaust actually existed (Holocaust Denial n. pag). “The Holocaust, like evolution, is robustly supported and generally accepted by all but a fringe minority, but it must nevertheless be continually tested, regularly revised, and constantly improved” (Shermer n. …show more content…
According to the deniers, Germany was fighting Typhus (a lice infestation) during the war, which is why the heads were to be shaved. This would also be the reason for the high death rate of the Jewish race (Butz n. pag). However, the Historians are here to prove them wrong. There are undoubtedly no more large groups of the Jewish race in Europe. The U.S. and British troops found Jewish bodies in late 1945 (Butz n. pag). There have been piles of ashes found at Maidanek, Treblinka, Auschwitz-Birkenau, and surrounding the camps. The ashes were commonly dumped into rivers and swamps, as well as used for fertilizers on farms. Joseph Goebbels, Hitler's minister of propaganda, had a diary that gave proof of the extermination of the Jewish race. On February 14, 1942 Goebbels wrote, “The Fuhrer once again expressed his determination to clean up the Jews in Europe pitilessly. There must be no squeamish sentimentalism about it. The Jews have deserved the catastrophe that has now overtaken them. Their destruction will go hand in hand with the destruction of our enemies. We must hasten this process with cold ruthlessness.” Goebbels again writes on March 27, 1942: “The procedure is a pretty barbaric one and not to be described here more definitely. Not much will remain of the Jews. On the whole it can be said that about 60 per cent of them will have to be liquidated whereas only 40 per cent can be used for forced labor” (Austin n.
