People with serious socio-emotional and emotional disturbances are challenged in many aspects of life. Historically people of color with serious mental health related issues had little assistance and chances to having their needs met equally to Whites. In order to properly or adequately address the emotional and mental wellbeing of everyone on an equal basis, the stigma association must be removed from people of color.
Mental Health Perspective

Reducing the stigma is detrimental in the success of creating systems of care. The families would have to have a level of comfort ability to address mental health issues and needs. The current thought is people who have mental health issues are crazy. This is not the case; in fact many persons with needs mentally function very well and successfully in society, with the assistance of medication or services. As stated in Lichtenstein’s CAUGHT AT THE CLINIC “One man expressed men's stigma-related concerns in these terms: "No one will have anything to do with you if you get a disease. So you want to stop anyone from knowing" (Lichtenstein 2002, p. 378) Creating awareness campaigns will assist in this process of de-stigmatizing.
Creating an environment, within the mental health community of service providers, which concentrates on individualized care and strength based approaches, will be beneficial to the whole social spectrum. Understanding that system change is difficult because systems have operation procedures they have been use to implementing and people thought process come into play, the effort still needs to take place.
Effective planning and implementation will have to take place. Individualization of care and treatments would take a strategic approach. Developing
