The differences in electromagnetic waves and their intensities, or energy levels, has to do with their frequency, which is the number of waves within a given unit of time. The higher the frequency (υ) the more intense the wave is and also shows us what the wavelength (λ), the distance between two peaks, is. The period is the time it takes for one full wave to cycle and the amplitude is the distance from the origin to the minimum or maximum value.
In a microwave there are a lot of different components that make it work, one component that makes microwaves unique the magnetron which was how microwaves were first invented, and the magnetron produces the electromagnetic waves so that they are able to cook food. The waves are used to control where the electromagnetic waves go inside the cooking chamber.
