Going further on in this aspect, it could be said that this not only affects national but also family identity. By charging the novelas with highly political subtexts and social issues (such as drugs, homosexuality and racism) which are subsequently discussed in almost all levels of society (Creeber, 2001, p.59; Porto, 2010) forces a change of behaviour in the private sphere as well. Despite this, the television viewing practices have not changed over the years, but instead it caused a growth in the engagement to these issues in the family level (Hamurger, 2007). This is illustrated in the collage through images of Globo's series Terra Nostra, which highlights the Italian immigration wave to Brazil at the first half of the 20th century. As my family has Italian origins, I felt that it had a direct relation to us which raised my interest to watch the series.
