An example of a primary source would be 'netherlandish school' which is an oil painting of William Herbert, 1st Earl of Pembroke. It was painted in 1565 which was just before the Earls death in 1570. This painting shows the Earl wearing fine Italian made armour. This armour was used in ceremonies at the time and would not have been worn to war. It shows us what type of armour the nobility were using at the time. The painter is not identified and potential problems are that we do not know if the painter has omitted or changed anything about the painting that may be important.
A 'Fireback brick' made in the 16th Century was used to face the rear walls of fire places. This shows the continental renaissance style of the time that had made its way into the homes of Welsh Nobility. It shows how the renaissance style took over England and Wales and manifested itself in all areas of the houses of nobility at the time. It cannot show
